In the notification, South Africa stated, among other things:
"The parties involved must identify themselves within 20 days of the start of the investigation."
What is a safeguard investigation?
Safeguard investigations are designed to determine whether an increase in product imports has caused or is likely to cause serious harm to the domestic industry.
During a safeguard investigation, importers, exporters and other interested parties can submit evidence and opinions and respond to representations made by other parties.
WTO members can take safeguard measures (i.e. temporarily restrict product imports) only when it is found that an increase in product imports has caused or is likely to cause serious harm.
